Umpqua River Lighthouse

My last picture from Oregon for the time being. This is a photo of Umpqua River Lighthouse, located near the mouth of Umpqua River and the town of Winchester Bay. The original lighthouse was built in the 1850s as the first lighthouse in the Oregon Territory, but this one was destroyed by a flood in 1864. The current lighthouse was completed in 1894. Built 30 metres above the river, this one would stay safe from flooding. The lighthouse itself in 19 metres.

I’ve mentioned the fog along the Oregon coast before. Even though this photo shows a pretty blue sky, in the WS you can find a photo I took at the very same spot, but looking in exactly the opposite direction, towards the Pacific Ocean, which was invisible due to the fog.
