Photographer's Note

Heading in on Forest Road 78 and the sky just beginning to lighten, I saw Weavers Needle in the distance and decided to postpone the start of my hike in order to capture an image of it as the clouds caught fire. Unfortunately, the clouds above and behind it must have been treated with fire retardant as they refused to take dawn's color.

While waiting at First Water Trailhead, the mountain morphed into a hulking bird of prey surveying the landscape for morning meal morsels.

ISO 100, 1/30 second at f/14, 300mm focal length
