Photographer's Note

Buried here are the remains of a prominent American explorer, Meriwether Lewis. Famous for his leadership during the Lewis and Clark expedition to explore the american west.

In 1809 Lewis died under ambiguous circumstances at Grinder's Stand, a small log cabin in the Tennessee mountains on the Natchez Trace, the old pioneer road between Natchez, Miss., and Nashville, Tenn.. It is speculated that personal and professional problems may have driven him to suicide, but some people believe he was murdered.
