A Sunset taken at the Smithpoint Marina in Shirley New York.

Shirley is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. As of the 2000 census, Shirley population was 25,395.

It is named for developer Walter T. Shirley who had the vision in the 1950s to turn the area on Mastic Bay into an affordable enclave. Shirley's company priced its 4,000 four-room homes starting at $4,700, and lots were priced at $295.[1]

Shirley is a community in the Town of Brookhaven, on the South Shore of Long Island.

Shirley is served by the Mastic-Shirley Long Island Rail Road station (the station was a compromise when both Mastic and Shirley campaigned for it).

The 7th Precinct of the Suffolk County Police Department is located in Shirley.

Most of Shirley, the southern part, is served by the William Floyd School District. The northern part is served by the Longwood School District.

Hi Angela,
It's easy to appreciate the soft pastel colours and simple but effective 1/3 - 2/3 composition. What I think the photo lacks is any real detail. The composition could have been improved by including something in the foreground to add depth to the image with the great colours as a background. Just an idea :)

Hi Angela,
I agree with Lee, the shot needs something happening in the foreground to lift it from being another beautiful sunset shot, but the problem is, this is what you had before you to capture. What a shame we don't have a bunch of extra's at our beck and call to help dress up a shot for us

Hi Angela,

i always had soft spot for sunsets. And sunrises.
Why not, they are georgeus and light always knows how to gently glaze us with its warmth and beauty.
Your composition is very simple...almost only vast sky reflecting its beauty on the water surface...and interrupted by thin line of land which gives us a notion that this wonder is actually very real.
