Photographer's Note

This amazing artifact was found in an ancient tomb. It's part of the collection of goods a wealthy person was interred with (in this case, probably royalty), which was intended to ensure that they enjoyed the real thing in the afterlife. As an ancient historian, these priceless remnants of a civilization lost to time offer glimpses into what daily life was like for the people who lived so many millennia ago. This small back garden, which featured (probably) fruit trees, was the height of luxury for someone living in the Nile delta. It's now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
