Photographer's Note
Yet another rainy evening, Ithaca Commons.
In my last upload I mentioned that summar never arrived in upstate New York this year. While that's not exactly true, it has been a rather wet summer. As is, we don't get to see much of the sun througout the year, thanks to all the evaporation from the finger lakes. If not for the "Sagan Planet Walk" centered around the Ithaca Commons, created in fond memory of Ithaca resident and Cornell professor Carl Sagan, it would be difficult to believe in such thing as Solar System. Anyhow, you get the point. It snows a lot here, rains a lot here, and there is no sun. Still the uber-nature-friendly Eco-Villagers set up big solar panels all over their rooftops. You got to admire their dedication. I, on the other hand, keep a stash of Vitamin-D supplements.
Animesh's monsoon in bengal pictures inspired me to upload this shot although mine is nowhere close to his pictures either in content or in style.

Hi Prantik,
Nice urban view of Ithaca. I like the blurry effect, both on the couple and the street, and I think it matches the umbrella's pattern nicely. The fect that you can see the street as the path they are following on the left adds a lot to the photo.
Saludos,
Daniel

"Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my Umbrella

Interesting. The background is so blurred and the umbrella pops out so in the foreground so much that I get the impression that two modern-day people (with their contemporary clothes) are about to step through time into a nostalgic old Paris scene. -Hugh

Hi Prantik,
Nice dreamy moisture saturated photo. It definitly is reminiscent of Animesh's monsoon series. The umbrella really pops out of this one.
Down here it didn't rain for almost three weeks, except for yesterday. Otherwise it's been a nice summer 60 miles south of Ithica.
Take care,
Brian

Very, very nice, Prantik! A superb black and white. Excellent degree of blur and sharpness.
Why does rain set off such creativity in TE wanderers?

Hello, Prantik--
Nice work... the blur, the bokeh, but most of all, the swirls of the umbrella... this is a nice, very dynamic scene. Nicely seen.
Thanks!

What a picture, the umbrella looks like a white bulb underneath which the two take shelter...I like the grainy surrounding..the bokeh increases the charm...the focus rightly set on the two...another thing which is good is the minor panning effect...

Umbrela calling to luko, umbrella calling to luko... ok, ok, I'm coming...
You know the point about me and umbrellas under the rain. It's a lifetime guarantee or almost, but before I hand you a dark green one, I would like to point the dark richness of the background...
That is the key to make it stand out, I love deep blacks when on purpose, I hate them for detailed scenes. Here the background contrast is totally apt.

one subject I like : umbrella.... I like this contrasted b&w and the slight blur. Artistic.

The secret here, I think, is in the swirly pattern of the umbrella itself - it seems to create a whole other pattern of movement in the frame. That said it's a lovely romantic rain shot - umbrellas, hell, I'm partial to them too...;o)

Simply great. The mood is sweet but the photograph is very contrasted with perfect white and deep blacks... Good work

I once ate a huuuuuge peperoni pizza in Ithaca. You probably don't give a s*** about it, but it has remained in my mind as a sort of salvation program considering I was starving. There was a lot of rain that day, sort of northern monsoon.. the peperoni kept me warm.
