Photographer's Note

I am still in Ludlow, a small town in Shropshire near the Welsh border, but for today's main photo I sent my time machine with a remote controlled camera to 1916...

...but dear TE friends, you are probably smart enough not to believe me. I confess that I took this personally in 1966, but it's such a grainy and not perfectly sharp photo that I thought it looked much older. I just had to crop it slightly at the bottom and to the left to avoid two parked cars and then gave it a sepia tone, and there it was: Straight from the distant past.

The coordinates for the Google map for this photo are approximately 52.36660 -2.71603, or just click Map: view. Here is a larger version.

Ludlow has several old pubs, some of them in beautiful half-timbered houses. There is no pub seen in this photo, but I have a strong suspicion these two gentlemen were hurriedly on their way to one.

My WS photos today show two of the most famous pubs. They may be of some interest to those who took part in the TE meeting here in June 2012.
