Photographer's Note

Huichol art broadly groups the most traditional and most recent innovations in the folk art and handcradfts produced by the Huichol people, who live in the states of Jalisco, Durango, Zacatecas and Nayarit in Mexico. The unifying factor of the works is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries. One of most common and commercially successful products is Bead Art: They use pre-formed plaster shapes and after coating these with hot wax they stick over small pierced colored beads, in accordance with the intended design. For convenience and speed they hold with a needle many beads of the same color, as seen in the insert. I will post more highly-developed works soon.
