Photographer's Note

This stele is a memorial tribute to a freedman and a freedwoman, husband and wife, their names Aurelius Hermia and Aurelia Philematium. He took her to his bosom when she was at the age of seven, and they lived together as long as life would permit. The original monument was of Tiburtine Stone, and dates from the 1st century BCE. They rest in a tomb near the Via Nomentana,in Rome. Displayed in the Museum of Antiquities, University of Saskatchewan.
