Photographer's Note

Diyarbakir, is one of the many importants cities of southeastern Turkey. There are many interesting historical places to visit, but I believe that everyone will agree that the old and impressive and well preserved walls of black basalt are among the highlights. Although the foundations date from Roman times, most of what we see today dates from the 11th century Artukid Kingdom of Melik Shah. There are a number of important gates and defensive towers, but on my last trip to Diyarbakir I discovered that there are vaults underneath. The place shown in the picture has recently been renovated and transformed into an exhibition center as an art gallery.
