Photographer's Note

In the cliffs above the site of the ancient city of Caunos, Lycian style rock-cut tombs can be seen. The tombs were built in the Lycian style, but were constructed by the Carians. The ancient city was abandoned after the harbour silted up, and the sea is now about 5km away.
Thats enough of the history lesson. Today there is a beautiful beach at Dalyan, accessible only by boat, and the beach is one of the most important nesting sites for the giant Loggerhead turtle. Behind the beach are many little waterways, almost choked with reeds, and you can often see the tutles swimming as you glide along in one of the small boats that navigate the river.
