Photographer’s Note

The mountain road from Kishorn to Applecross on the West coast of the Scottish Highlands is the highest road in the UK. Park at the top and it saves a long walk up- good for redeeming a bad weather day! From there this mountain (Sgurr a' Ghaorochain) can be easily wandered up. Heading North East to neighbouring Beinn Bhan is a rough, boulder field which is slow work! The rock here is the pink sandstone at the bottom of this picture and the lichen on this particular slab caught my eye. Lichen takes decades to grow so I know it would look pretty much the same today, but even if I tried I'd never find this rock again!

Macro mode, field of view about 7cm. Contrast adjust, slight unsharp mask. (I always set the contrast to low in camera to prevent highlights blowing out)
