Photographer’s Note
The mountain road from Kishorn to Applecross on the West coast of the Scottish Highlands is the highest road in the UK. Park at the top and it saves a long walk up- good for redeeming a bad weather day! From there this mountain (Sgurr a' Ghaorochain) can be easily wandered up. Heading North East to neighbouring Beinn Bhan is a rough, boulder field which is slow work! The rock here is the pink sandstone at the bottom of this picture and the lichen on this particular slab caught my eye. Lichen takes decades to grow so I know it would look pretty much the same today, but even if I tried I'd never find this rock again!
Macro mode, field of view about 7cm. Contrast adjust, slight unsharp mask. (I always set the contrast to low in camera to prevent highlights blowing out)

Steve, the thumbnail picture just grabbed me so I had to take a closer look. I'm glad I did. WOW, what an awesome picture. It reminds me (some) of ground formations I have seen from an airplane. Thanks for sharing yur fine photo with us. God's best to you, Tim

That's a mosaic of lichen and such a range of color and shape. Well done.

As you can imagine from what I generally post, I much appreciate this finely detailed, abstracted image. Great color and sharpness speaks to your care in handling the image. Nicely done Steve.

This shot of colourful lichen makes an interesting abstract. I would love to see the view from the mountain.

Hi Steve, Wonderful colours here. It is litterally a natural piece of art you have captured here. The dots give it a similarity to some of the aboriginal artworks now being painted and sold for high values. After tens of thousands of years the old has become new again. The colours in your image are wonderful. TFS, Murray.
