Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

You may think this is a strange title for the picture of this lovely house and garden, and you would be right. Sadly, because of the light, I was unable to get a good photograph of the sign, which had been erected in the garden stating 'KEEP LANCASHIRE FRACKING FREE!'

Please click on No Fracking! to see the photograph much larger and clearer.

Fracking (or hydraulic fracturing) refers to the method used to extract gas or oil from shale rock by injecting large volumes of water containing a number of additives. This includes sand and lubricating fluids into the rock under high pressure.

Fracking has begun in this area and for the people living nearby, fracking is a huge concern.

'The Government halted all onshore fracking operations in 2011 over concerns at earth tremors after fracking at the Preese Hall site in Lancashire, which were attributed to Cuadrilla’s operations there.
In 2012 the Royal Society and Academy of Engineering’s review concluded that shale gas extraction could be managed safely in the UK if best practice in implementation and enforcement of regulatory safeguards was followed. Since that review, the Government has approved the resumption of activity'.

For people in the rest of country, shale gas is being extracted for their benefit. In Lancashire there is a constant, underlying worry about the practice!

This is such a beautiful part of the country as seen by this photograph and one which I will add as a workshop. Let us hope that the Government has got it right!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
