Cardiff Castle Keep

Another photo from my UK archives. This one was taken in the Welsh capital of Cardiff for over six years ago. Seen here is the keep of Cardiff Castle.

Cardiff Castle (Welsh: Castell Caerdydd) is a medieval castle and a Victorian mansion located in the city centre of Cardiff, the capital of Wales. The original castle was built in the 11th century by Norman invaders, but already the Romans had used this spot for their fortifications.

Hello Lars,
Your well chosen point of view shows the castle keep to good effect with the path on the right furnishing a lead-line. The visitors nicely animate the scene and give scale to the whole. The image is well exposed and has excellent colours and clarity.

Hello Lars,
Here is some info. gathered from travelers about this castle, it has huge walls and during WW2 it was a refuge-place from air-raids bombing, and also that the interior of the castle itself has an exquisite decorations inside. Also, not so far from where you taken this marvelous picture, standing a replica of a wooden torture stand...
A fine picture of the mighty fortified tower.

There is something so appealing about the combination of green grey and blue and this really is a beautiful example. As a big fan of castles this instantly appeals to me and even more so with such five light and Peterc composition. Really cool photo.CheersNoel

Hello Lars,
an effective and delightful presentation of a historic castle that stands on its hill for so many centuries. Fierce battles must have taken place there in the past, but now the castle and the setting around it look so friendly and peaceful. I like the perspective and the consistency of the green area, definition is excellent and the sky is spectacular. The light makes this interesting scenery even more inviting. Hi Lars,
this is one more place in the UK which I did not visit yet. Beautiful composition with the asymmetrically placed castle. The weather was fantastic, green color is so well saturated. Sky is so lovely decorated with clouds. Everything's just perfect, and quite encouraging to visit Cardiff.

A superb picture, this medieval castle, located on the headland, which seems built to raise the castle, I wonder if what we see behind a door the walls, stunning contrast stone castle, with the intense greenery surrounds.
Excellent POV, with very good lighting, color and sharpness to enjoy the details.

Dag lars,

Ik zeg het reeds meermaals, Nederland is mooi, België is mooi, maar als echte fotograaf moet men naar England en Schotland durven gaan voor mooie en oude kastelen en ruïnes
Een reeds overleden buurman was een Welshman, en wist waar zoiets te vinden was.
Heerlijke compositie, de kleuren zijn perfect en de mensen zorgen voor meer animo.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Nice capture of this castle but I think it needs more elevation to be effective in warding off invaders. Good pov and dof with sharp details. The people provided scale. Well done, tfs.

Hallo Lars,
Een prachtige presentatie met rechts het pad dat naar de trappen leidt.
De bezoekers en in het bijzonder deze op de trappen geven een goed idee van de grootte van het kasteel.
Blijkbaar geen slotgracht hier maar de heuvel - mogelijk kunstmatig aangelegd - helpt heel wat voor de verdediging.
Wat is het gras prachtig groen in Wales!

The Welsh Castle is well framed and composed and the tourists add scale in the fg and animate the scene. Good color and saturation. The steep stairs provide fine lead in lines. Tfs.

Hello Lars,

You know, I have never visited this castle which is a pity for it looks very well preserved. Maybe it is the brightness of the day or the greenness everywhere, or the happily lounging tourists, but this looks the most welcoming, unthreatening castle that I have ever viewed.
You have composed it well, with a good lead line and the focal keep, strongly placed on the intersecting thirds lines. The walls, in the b/g, add to depth to a very well taken photograph.
