Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I suppose we all have grand ambitions but how many times have you dined in a castle!
This couple were having their lunch, in an individual room at Dunstanburgh Castle. Admittedly, the decorations were not of the highest quality and the heating arrangements had room for improvements but they could go home and say - "We had our lunch in a castle today!"
Dunstanburgh Castle has been posted many times before so it is difficult to find a new angle on it!
Dunstanburgh Castle is a 14th-century fortification on the coast of Northumberland in northern England, between the villages of Craster and Embleton. The castle was built by Earl Thomas of Lancaster between 1313 and 1322, taking advantage of the site's natural defences and the existing earthworks of an Iron Age fort. Wikipedia
Thanks for your interest - Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
What a lovely view of the castle in the distance in the middle of these green fields. The daffodils are also very nice included. The people and dog had found a lovely place to have their lunch. Very good photo and very well composed.

Hello Bev,
This is a very nice photo and also quite amusing. I would not immediately have thought of this as "dining in a castle", but of course you are right. The best surviving part of the castle provides a fine background, behind the beautiful yellow flowers. I hope the dog was also given something to eat.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Beverley,
The decoration for lunch were absolutely unique and different. What an idea to choose where to eat, if the authorities allow... not always that would be possible.
Attractive sight of the far side tower, the ruins, the yellow flowers with green grass, and the timing when you passed by those guys.
Have a nice Friday,
Ike

Hello Bev,
A fun composition featuring this picnicking couple and their dog with the added bonus of the ruined castle tower in the background. Agreeable spring colours and very good sharpness. Very spring like here today, bright and sunny and reasonably mild.

Hello Bev ,
A charming moment for this couple eating in the castle , even it is a remain of tower . The composition is excellent with the biggest tower in the BG , and the yellow daffodils in this beautiful spring day .

Bonjour Bev,

Buon we

Dear Beverley,
Today we both posted British people having lunch at an extraordinary place (though I posted them in a WS instead of a main upload). As you noted, while this castle lacks some basic facilities and furniture the environment is really stunning.
Best Wishes,

Hello Bev,
Ha, ha! If you'd asked me that question before I saw your photograph I would have had to say that I had most definitely never dined in a castle - but now I see your lovely picture I realise that I have on quite a few occasions eaten my cheese or ham butties while seated in the ruins of an ancient castle such as this!
I don't know if this couple were friends of yours accompanying you on your trek because they look very relaxed and quite happy to have their photograph taken - or maybe you just spent time talking to them before taking their picture.
The scene is perfect - lovely spring weather, sunlight, blue sky, fresh green grass and bright daffodils - and your composition is perfect with the crumbling tower in the distance perfectly placed and the "dining" couple and their dog nestled comfortably within the remaining lower walls of the castle.
Lovely soft light, true colours, perfect exposure, excellent detail and sharpness - and just a little touch of humour! What more do we need?
Perfect!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Bev,
at first I didn't recognize this place and I thought: one more castle I missed, one more place to visit in Northumberland but then this shape of the tower started to look familiar...
Very funny title and related story. Great idea to include the people among ruins. I remember as well that I promised my daughter an ice cream after this long walk there but there was absolutely nothing so we could not get her any thing to eat there at all. These people came prepared :)
Nice also to see the flowers in the distance I would be tempted to get there and use them as a foreground too :)
Great reportage,
M

Hello Bev,
Well, they are missing some tables and chairs...and a roof...but the ambiance is still great. :-) I like how the gentleman is looking right at you, too. The line of yellow flowers in between the castle remnants is lovely, and overall it's an amusing and fun photo.

Hi Bev
Oh man, i love these type of Castle ruins, they are all over the place in Ireland and Scotland, you found a beauty here. The Castle in the bg looks like a split piece of wood cut by an axe. great to have the bright light, the yellow flowers, and the family enjoying a meal in some sort of room left over from years past. awesome indeed! Good find here. cheers

Hello Beverley,
Dining in a castle? I think the service there isn't really top. On the other hand, no tip is expected at all. In fact, I would also like to have lunch or dinner in that area. Perhaps there is another room where you can spend the night ... and be awakened with the whistling of birds.
This castle definitely has possibilities.
A beautiful photo with a good composition, lots of depth and nice natural colours.
The flower field in the middle is a splendid element.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev
I guess the ruined stone structure serves the dual purpose of a wind break and back rest! It also offers a modicum of privacy. You just don't know who could be spying from up in the castle, lol! The ruined bg castle and yellow flowers add interest to the bg too. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
so nice! The spring colors and your amusing text made me enjoy this photo very much. No service, no convenient seats, kitchen already closed, but dogs allowed!
Kind regards,

Hi Beverley
Celle ci est particulière avec le couple et le petit chien pour prendre leurs petit repas bien protéger entre les vielles pierres, tandis que le château en ruine se détache au loin entre le ciel bleu et les fleurs jaunes, c'est une belle image
Bonne journée

Hi Bev
That's spring (daffodils) and the air is still cold, that's why they shelter under this wall to have their picnic. Unfortunatly, they have no view on the old castle behind them!
Cheers
