Photographer's Note

This shot was taken on a visit to Cragside, near Rothbury in Northumberland, in the Autumn of last year.

Cragside is a large house set in extensive woodland, once home to Lord Armstrong. It was the first house in the country to be fully lit by electricity, powered by hydro-electric generators within the grounds.

I've deliberately been quite heavy with the post-processing, to try and create a dream-like atmosphere.

In Photoshop, I corrected the levels to bring out shadow detail, and increase the brightness of the shafts of sunlight. I then copied the entire image to a new layer - working on this, I increased the saturation, and applied a 'gaussian blur' filter. I then reduced the opacity of this new layer, to give the image a dreamy, soft-focus atmosphere.
