Photographer's Note

This is an old cotton mill built 1907 it has a large working steam mill engine. It closed in the late 60's I think, and lay dormant for many years. The engine man volunteered to come in and maintain the engine for free, otherwise it would have been lost.
It re-opened years later as a industrial museum and heritage site. where old people go to think on times passed and young ones go to learn about how things were years ago.
Like all cotton mills in Lancashire their demise was caused by cheap imports from India and the Far east. No cotton mills operate commercially now, many were bulldosed to make way for new developments.
