Photographer's Note

today we continiue with the theme from yesterday.
This is an other fine example of the typical carnival lanterns in Basel.
Every clique (carnival group) chooses a theme for the carnival. It usually is something that preoccupied lots of people during the year. The theme is then played out by costumes, songs and with the pictures on the lanterns. Furthermore the theme is commented on in a very ironic way in the local dialect in verse form on the lanterns. So every lantern is decorated over and over with small ironic poems about local or international politics.
