Photographer's Note

The White-letter Hairstreak is a small butterfly with erratic flight found around elm trees. The name of it in Swedish translated into English is Elm Rapid Wing. The uppersides that are blackish-brown are only seen during flight. Otherwise it has its wings closed. The butterfly is quite common but not easily discovered since it spend much time in the tree canopy. The undersides of the wings are brown and the butterfly is distinguished by a thin but strongly-defined white 'W' mark across the undersides.

This butterfly is widespread and found all over Europe but also in Asia.
