Photographer's Note
Hello friends and colleagues, today I offer you a nice view of the cathedral with the main stream in the foreground, of the beautiful village of San Vicente de la Barquera. I hope you like it, then some letters about the villa.
San Vicente de la Barquera is a municipality in the western coastal region of Cantabria (Spain). It borders the Cantabrian Sea and the municipalities of Valdáliga, Herrerías and Val de San Vicente. Its capital, the town of San Vicente de la Barquera, is closely linked to the sea, as all its traditions, customs and popular festivals demonstrate. Tourism is its main activity due to the great natural beauty and heritage that the area has. 80% of the municipal area belongs to the Oyambre Natural Park and enjoys a special protection regulated by the autonomous community of Cantabria as a result of its extraordinary landscape and ecological value.
There is evidence of human settlement since prehistory. In particular, vestiges of the Bronze Age have remained, such as the megalithic site of El Barcenal. It is believed that the Cantabrian orgenomescos inhabited here. St. Vincent has been identified with the Portus Vereasueca of the Romans.
In the High Middle Ages, this territory was repopulated by Alfonso I in the middle of the 8th century. The castle then rose, and around it the town grew. The period of economic boom of San Vicente is developed from 1210. On April 3 of that same year Alfonso VIII of Castile granted San Vicente de la Barquera privilege of villazgo, granting him the same jurisdiction as San Sebastian. Last of the «Four Villas of the Coast» -Castro Urdiales (1163), Santander (1187), Laredo (1200) and San Vicente de la Barquera itself- to which Alfonso VIII granted jurisdiction, configuring itself as a royal estate. boom was made possible through maritime trade and fishing rights. From 1330 date the first rules of the brotherhood of sailors. However, in the middle of the fifteenth century it went into decline, due to a series of fires and pests. In the sixteenth century, the future king Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany visited the town when he was on his way to the plateau, to be named monarch. On the occasion of his visit a bullfight was prepared. There he became ill and had to spend the night in the convent of San Luis.
San Vicente de la Barquera was part of the Corregimiento of the Four Villas of the Coast of the Sea and capital of the brotherhood of the Four Villas de la Mar. He participated in the San Miguel Bridge Meetings, intervening in the formation of the Ordinances of the Province of Cantabria (1779).
It was constituted as a constitutional council in 1822. At first, it was part of the judicial district of Comillas. As of 1835 it had its own judicial party, but it did not cover the Liébana area, which does occur today.
In April 1973 it was announced that Electra de Viesgo was going to build the Santillán nuclear power plant, with four units and a power of four million kilowatts, whose initial cost was estimated at 80,000 million pesetas. The company acquired 71.6 hectares of land, the equivalent of 71 football fields, in a coastal strip that covers the area of the municipalities of San Vicente de la Barquera and Val de San Vicente, next to the cove of the beach of La Fuente ; On the cliffs of Santillán-Boria, a ditch was built to carry out preliminary surveys for the construction of the nuclear power plant in this area. It was scheduled to begin exporting power in 1982, with an output of 970 megawatts. Finally, due to political and social opposition, both from Cantabria and from Asturias, the electric company abandoned the project provisionally.

Hello Angel,
A beautiful view of the river, dotted with many small boats, and the town on the hill in the background. The lamppost is a nice addition to the foreground as well. You had a lovely light, which rendered the colours very natural and fine too.

Hello dear Angel,
What a wonderful place. The small river is full of nice boats, above on the hill the interesting castle, the snow-capped mountains far away. Nice colors with excellent sharpness.
I wonder if anyone reads such a long note. Better to give just a few sentences but personal than to copy from Wiki.
Kind regards s Malgo

Hello Angel,
This is an attractive view of the cathedral on the hill and the river below. The many small boats are very pretty and the scenery with the high mountains in the background is beautiful. The lamppost balances the cathedral very nicely. The colours are superb.
Kind regards,

Hola Angel,
This is a lovely scene with details of moored boats and a fine cathedral.
I like how well you have composed the scene, using the lamppost, in the f/g, to balance the cathedral on the hill.
The river follows an opposing diagonal to complete the composition.
Have a lovely day,
Bev ;-)

Hello Angel,
A pleasantly balanced composition with the church on the hilltop supplying an effective focal point. The boats nicely dotted across the frame supply further points of interest. Agreeable lights and colours and very good sharpness.

Hola, Angel!
Nice repetition of the boats moored in the stream with wonderful reflections and a nice red brick cathedral atop the hill. I like the glimpses of distant snow capped peaks. Tfs!

Hello Angel
At first sight the boats look like toy boats to me. They seem so small in relation to the big cathedral on the hill. The three boats on the bank and the lanterns on the right side also contribute to this image.
Beautiful presentation
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hi Angel
A relaxing riverside capture with enough features to draw the eyes. The old cathedral along with the boats are strong elements making this capture enticing and this has a freshness to it, excellent shot, Congrats

Hello Angel, the cathedral dominates the scene even though it stands on the hillside beyond the river.
A lovely view taken on a very clear and bright day.
The little boats on the water enhance the scene.

Hello Angel,
What a beautiful location of the cathedral!
It has been built in a wonderful natural scenery.
You enjoyed splendid weather and were able to see the snowy peaks in the distance.
The small boats are nicely spread on the water and also on the river bank.
The lamppost in the lower right corner adds more depth to the image.
I like the composition, the depth and of course the wonderful scenery.
Best regards, Paul

Hola Angel,
Low water level on mid-summer given a wide scope for the river-bed on the scene. it is wonderfully allocated through the pic. space with the green grove on the slope leading the viewer towards the church-complex on top.
Beautiful image, a painter would do great on such a view.
Bravo e buen domingo,
Ike

Hola Angel Sleeping boats on the lazy river, what a peaceful scenery featuring the Cathedral that chose the best place on the hill top for a better view on the magnificent valley! Judicious inclusion of a street light as a notable good visual balance, compare to the elevated church. Hasta luego

Hello Angel,
It's a nice view of the castle across the estuary. It looks like the tide is low, some of the boats have been stranded on dry ground. 👍👍

Hola Angel,
fantastic point of view. The result is breath taking. I like the river which looks here like a velvet band and is nicely decorated with the little boats. Interesting architecture of the church on the top of the hill. The lamp balances the composition on the other side.
Amazing light.
Excellent work,
M
