Photographer's Note

Portugal still remains one of the most religious country's in Europe. Having lived for almost 50 years of a dictatorial regime, who's moto was "god nation and family" (by this order), it molded our already melancolic and religious spirit.

The younger urban generation, submitted to consumption and fast and intense sensations, are diverging from religion, but in inner Portugal traditions are still very alive.

This place is in Serra da Abobreira, near Douro river. I got a couple of shots of the cross against the sky using a wide angle. This was ok, but missed something to give some meaning to the photo. Then I started to play with depth of field with my "50 f1.4" just for fun and experimentation. After a while, I noticed the flowers in the ground and started shooting them...then I had this idea, got my belly in the ground and shoot the flowers with small dof having the cross as background.

This one has a special meaning for me, but I'll let you have your own interpretation (as any artistic work should). Maybe it's not a "stunning view", but this one is from the heart.
