Photographer's Note

Man (in the right of the frame) who takes care of the pigeons, he is there every day at 7 pm to bring them some food and water. His buddy (middle of the frame) takes care of cats somewhere else.

I have a soft spot in my heart for poeple like that, they give and get nothing in return, often looked up by the others as loosers who have nothing better to do in life.

Clearly from the conversation we had (or should I say his monoloque, he talked, probably happy to have found someone who listened) I could see that this is what he lives for, I was explained different varieties of pigeons, their habits, the fact the he writes to the city councellors trying to protect them, about bad poeple who try to get rid off them, poison them etc etc. In many places pigeons seem to be part of the history, and bring that something special to the place, don't you just love when you go to the old part of the city and see the smile of the kids feeding them, or simply giving them a chase.

I can also see the other side of the story, just imagine living there and having to put up with thousands of birds crapping there every day, you could probably wear an umbrella on a sunny day and try to survive this way, there is also the problem of diseases, in this particular place employees of the surrounding business are complaining about many birds blidly flying into the windows.

Please see the
workshop for another take.
