Photographer's Note

Bolkow Castle is situated on the top of a high cliff above the river Raging Neisse.
According to the legend a guardhouse was built at the top of the hill already in the ninth century. It was probably a stone tower surrounded by wooden houses, it burned in the thirteenth century. The first mention of the castle is dated back to 1277, the castle was built of basalt slate, it was erected by Boleslaw II the Bald, Duke of Legnica. Its purpose was to protect the roads leading through the Sudetes massif from Czech to the Baltic Sea.
