Photographer's Note

This is an old groyne on the Baltic Sea. Poland has beautiful beaches with very fine, soft sand. They must be protected from erosion. A groyne is a structure that interrupts water flow and reduces erosion. Groynes are generally made of wood, concrete, or rock piles. It is a physical barrier to stop sand transport.
