gdynia. swietojanska street. an old woman waiting for bus.
when i was making this picture i just thought what older people might feel watching those posters. in their time those would be vulgar and offensive.
now usually they are. they are just showing naked people in nice way, to make us buy. we got used. and become tolerante kind.

super pomysl :)

I would not say tolerant at all. I think the problem is much deeper. Used, yes. People realy don't care and got pretty much indifferent imo.
In your picture, I think that partial desaturation is not necessary. The message is strong as it is. And anyway, the poster is not that colourful..
bantonbuju (51815) 2005-02-08 14:38
its a beautiful yet sad picture; its more about time passing than tolerance i think;anyhow its not just a photo, its real art; pitty no more smilies for today, this work deseves the appreciation;
MKING (3054) 2005-02-08 14:59
I agree with Anton-- not a fan of the partial desaturation because what it does is give preference to one element within the frame over the other; in this case the poster over the elderly lady. I think both are equally important to your message and hence I'd rather see this all in B/W. The strength here is all in the content and subject matter and their arrangement than a specific element.

Amazing and wonderful image! You have made a unique observation, the contrast between the colour on the affiche and the rest of the picture is very well enhanced. Congratulations Krystian!

Excellente composition. Je préfere l'arrière plan ...
Praetzer (2377) 2005-02-08 15:17
Well spoted. I like especcaily the overall black and white aspect, clearly in contrast to the colorfull youth. ***** You just went into my favorites.
I don't agree with other comments: for me there is nothing sad about it. Life is life (I'm 56). If nothing had changed the last 30 years, chances are that the old lady was not even here anymore. (Hope I'm not offending).
pridel (233) 2005-02-08 15:24
i like your photograph very much.
contrast is very strong between this old worthy lady and photograph of publicity.

Tak, te przystanki są kopalnią pomysłów. TO jest świetnie uchwycone, wszystko się składa w jeden sens.

Good work Krystian. Part desaturated treatment works here and gets the message accross.

Doskona³e reporterskie foto. Bardzo dobry pomys³, pomieszania kolorowego plakatu, z czarono-bia³± rzeczywisto¶ci±. Gratulacje.

nice compo, i actually like the partial saturation here! not sure i understand your title and comments though, for me this is about passing of time and maybe how indifferent we have grown to commercials. (times change, i'm sure it was hard to "tolerate" women voters, black businessmen, a public kiss etc. some decades ago :-))

Excellent picture, the partial desaturation is a very good choice, here. Very good composition, bravo !

Great shot Krystian!
Very good choice in your post production. I really like the contrast you're emphasizing.. the old with the new.

Smart idea and interesting photo.

Nice one !
Good contrast between the young naked coloured girl and the older, clothed b&w woman.
donner64 (284) 2005-02-19 6:02
Le contraste noir/blanc et couleur est saisissant. Le procédé me semble justifié et donne du corps à la question de la note... Joli travail.
laluna (261) 2005-02-21 21:16
I think it would be interesting to see the desaturation in the inverse...everything in b&w, but the old woman in color...;)
I do like the shot and the contrasts (color/b&w, age & youth, conservative vs. liberal) certainly invite good dialogue.

Swietny pomysl na zdjecie, bardzo przemyslana koncepcja. Dobry efekt z usunieciem koloru. Dodaje symboliki.
Brendon (289) 2006-01-29 4:53
Right on, the desaturation is great. I especially love the vandals graffiti/scratchings/etchings interlaced with the poster.
The message is great. Good job!
johnrose (129) 2006-02-02 2:46
I like the phot and you have an interesting POV. However maybe the old woman does not want to look at the photo because it reminds her of what she has lost her youth. With youth you have hopes and dreams and now she has her memories so this could be a moment of contemplation.
Aido (317) 2006-02-02 18:21
Great image, I love the contrasts, young and old, B&W to colour, just a wonderful image.

interesting technic of partial desaturation, very good contrast and PoV!
Really well done! Thanks

A nice comparision of values & attitudes...
The choice of using Monochrome with colour makes this very attractive...
