At Kinderdijk
Mechanical... it is actually the roof of the mill which is oriented, depending on the wind, so that its wings turn. then there are axes in the building that lead the movements of the wings at the top to the mill and its cogs at the bottom. outside there are these masts which allow the orientation of the sail (and the sails are only stretched when the mill has to turn).
