Photographer's Note

Amstelveen is an area on the fringe of Amsterdam, criss-crossed with wonderful Dutch canals. The areas surrounding the urban fringe are beautiful; full of willows, flowers, passing boats and people wanting to get a reprieve from the more dense urban areas close by. This house and collection of boats caught my eye as perhaps the vision of idyllic Dutch living. I am sure that in the winter months the view here would be quite different, but on this day it was warm, inviting and very relaxing. The waterway is actually the main canal (Amstel) that runs through Amsterdam further downstream. Here it is more narrow and with mostly more natural surrounds.
