Photographer's Note

In Ancient Rome special wells were used to store ice and snow which slaves brought down from to mountains to luxurious villas. Among the ruins of Pompeii there are traces which lead us to believe that some shops specialized in selling crushed ice (from Vesuvius) sweetened with honey.

Hello Daniel,
The ice cream bar was a good excuse for taking a photo of the yellow vespa. For my own part I am fascinated by the rather dilapidated wall, which looks like an abstract painting by a modernist artist. All these elements form a fine Italian atmosphere.

Hello Daniel, an ancient wall with a very modern gelateria, plus a bright yellow scooter, making a very attractive picture.
I love the texture and subtle colours of the wall.
A very good 'tight' composition.

The very weathered exterior wall would let us suspect something else about the interior.
But it looks like a very modern and well-kept ice cream shop.
The motorcycles are well placed on the photo.

hello dear Daniel, where there were no refrigerators the people have to find some other ways to preserve and cool the food. Only n 1913, refrigerators for home use were invented. Difficult to imagine, but as an old person, I remember when the first fridge appeared at my home. Nice view of this small ice cream shop. Nice Vespas and picturesque walls.

Hello Daniel,

With only horses as transport, it makes you wonder how the ice or snow was transported without melting, before it reached the destination!
Gelato is definitely worth a second look and a second lick!!!
The facade of the shop is texturally interesting, whilst the inclusion of the bikes gives the impression that the owners have quickly rushed in for a gelato fix!

So captivating part of the old neighbourhood; the rustic wall, the shop and the bikes are so prominent full of vivid colours and textural detail. Yellow and red are so precious really add that little spark as an extra pulling power. A fine shot as seen from this shooting angle, it does standout and can be hard on the eyes. Great capture

la facciata fatiscente è in netto contrasto con la moderna gelateria, ma è molto fotogenica e l'aggiunta degli scooter (quello del servizio postale) è un ottimo soggetto.
