Castle of Bettona - Bettona (PG)rnBettona stands on a hill at the foot of which are joined the Chiascio river and the river Topino, in a dominant position on the Umbrian valley, clinging to the last slopes of the Martani mountains. Its origins date back to the VIII-VII centuries BC, it is, with Arna and Todi, one of the rare Etruscan settlements on the eastern side of the Tiber, perhaps the only city they founded on the shore traditionally occupied by the Umbrians; it was called "Vetumna", which probably means "place of the ancients", that is, of peoples pre-existing to the coming of the Etruscans. Today, traces of the city walls and a tomb remain from the Etruscan period.r
