The baptistery - Pisa
Among the wonders of Piazza dei Miracoli is certainly the Baptistery dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, which rises in front of the west facade of the Cathedral. We are talking about the largest Baptistery in Italy (107.25 meters in circumference), whose construction was started in 1153 by Diotisalvi and completed, after a century, by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. The construction was interrupted several times due to lack of money and this is the reason why the dome was built with different materials, such as red tiles and lead plates. Magnificent, inside, the baptismal font (where Galileo Galilei was baptized in 1564) and the pulpit, by Nicola Pisano, where the scenes of the Life of Christ are carved.
