Photographer's Note

Love the cloud cover on the island in the background. Never tried the black and white with splash of colour - so decided today I'd go the whole hog!

This by the way in the background is Portmarnock Beach in Dublin. It was from this beach in June 1930 that Charles Kingsford Smith departed on his transatlantic flight to Newfoundland - a journey of 31.5 hours. Also from this beach in 1932, James Mollison made the first solo East-West flight across the Atlantic in the deHaviland Puss Moth aircraft "The Heart's Content"
