Photographer's Note

his is Dettifoss, the largest of three major waterfalls along the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river carrying icy cold water from the Vatnajökull glacier and reported as the most powerful waterfall in Europe. It drops 44 meters, kicking up huge amounts of spray and making a LOT of noise.

This view is from the East side. The road to the falls is hard-packed gravel and the West side's road is paved so that's the one the tour busses use. (You can see a lot of tourists on the opposite side.) If you walk the rocks on the East side past the slightly raised hill on the skyline, you'll get to Selfoss - another spectacular falls.
