Photographer's Note

The Church of Persistency, flooded by the River Tisza in 1970 alongside with village Nagygéc. Based on subsequent decree of the council of ministers the rebuilding of the village had to take place at a higher location since as the results of human activities (including those affected the river) threatened with repeating floods. Thus the village and the church were abandoned for a long time. Some 7 years ago the church was rebuilt to serve as a place of national memory. Some of the abandoned houses are still standing, I will show one in my next upload. In the WS you can see the outside of the Church.

The interior of the church is painted to white and blue, which are the traditional colours of church interiors and handwoven articles in Szabolcs County. Later however red and green are became more widespread maybe because together with the white, they reflect our national colours.
