Stolpen is a town in the district of Sächsische Schweitzer-Osterzgebirge, in Saxony, Germany. It is a historical town, that grew at the foot of the Schloßberg with the castle Burg Stolpen.

Stolpen Castle - a medieval castle located in Stolpen, partly in ruins. It is located on a hill 356 meters above sea level.
The first defensive building was probably built in this place around 1100. The next information about the castle appears in 1121 in the Kosmas Chronicle. However, they are very uncertain. The first written document in the history of the castle comes from around 1218, when bishop Bruno II of Porstendorf purchased the castle together with the surrounding lands from Moyko de Stuplen.
