Photographer's Note

Photo shows the path nearing the Himmeleck Saddle (2001m) that take you over to the Oy Valley (Oytal) on the other side. The grassy slope on the right leads straight to Himmeleck summit (2151m). Left is Grosser Wilder. The path continues under the Grosser Wilder towards Kaser Alpe hut. Visibility wasn't too good on this day ... clouds & fog shrouding the mountains & valleys for the most part of the walk. Couldn't see the beautiful high alpine lake (Seealpsee) I wanted to see very much. Well, maybe I'll find myself in this area again. Still it was a good long day and night hike through various terrains made more atmospheric with the clouds & fog.

For many non-German mountain walkers the Bavarian Alps lie very much in the shadow of its Swiss and Austrian counterparts. This is unfortunate because what they lack in comparative height is more than well compensated by their diversity of landscapes and cultural attractions. Their position between the lowlands to south and higher alpine regions to the south offers dramatic contrast in landscapes. It is never far from the valley bottom to the top of rugged mountains, to picturesque mountain villages and farms nestled in lush green foothills. A day a soaked in dramatic mountain scenery can be followed by a nice peaceful stroll and dinner in the evening in a charming village. Many of these villages still maintain their strong folklore traditions and provincial characters.
