Photographer's Note

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a UNESCO world heritage site, especially with respect to its unequalled density of medieval castles and ruins.
Pfalzgrafenstein Castle (usually called the "Pfalz") is situated on an island in Rhine river, 110 ms from right and 160 ms from left bank. It never served as a residence but used to be a customs station which started around 1327 and has been in service until 1867 when both banks of the Rhine became Prussian territory.
