Photographer's Note

The Pfalzgrafenstein castle (a 14th century toll castle with a few more recent embellishments) on its own little island on the Rhine is quite startling and probably at its best when the sun is shining. Luckily, on a mostly wet day, the sun did pop out at the right moment whilst leaving a dark sky in the background.
The scene is complex - 2 castles (the other one on the hill is Gutenfels), the river, the village, steep hills and vineyards.
I realise that it is one of the most photographed spots on the Rhine, but with good reason.
