Photographer's Note

This is castle Hamborn near the village Kirchborchen - some kilometres south of the Westphalian city Paderborn.

The village already was mentioned in 9th century and it has been the centre of a very old settlement area. The castle traces back to two estates which were bought in the middle of 18th century by the family von Hartmann which combined it to one estate. The castle since then changed hands several times and by and by it was enlarged - the last time in 1913.

Since 1947 the castle houses a Waldorf school. Waldorf education is a pedagogy based upon the educational philosophy of the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. Learning here is interdisciplinary, integrating practical, artistic, and conceptual elements and therefore in 1952 the still existing old buildings of the former estate were reactivated by the school. So today agriculture is a school subject here.
In map view you can see the whole complex of buildings.

In workshop you can see the castle from the other side.
