Alpine Butterfly Photo

Photographer’s Note

Taken at about 1200m on a walk through waist high grass and alpine flower meadows in the French Alps. The snow has melted and the Alps have come to life - absolutely stunning! I've never seen so many butterflies, the only problem was finding one which stayed still long enough to take a photo!

Beautifully sharp and clear capture of this little butterfly. Very good DOF with only one antenna falling slightly outside DOF range.
There are many different subspecies of this butterfly, and we have some here, too. Whether they're exactly the same, I can't say, however.

Very nice common Blue (Polyommatus icarus) very nicely seen , just the front antenae dropping forward of the DOF, good background too nicley out of focus.

We have a lot of butterfly-on-flower pics on TE, so the standards are getting higher and higher. This is certainly near the top: good crisp focus, nicely balanced DOF, and spectacular colour combinations (that latter point is important - sometimes the butterfly colours are jarringly in contrast with those of the flower - I told you this is becoming an elite field!!).

Very nice one Steve.
Well capture, I know what it is to shasing butterflies. Good composition, good colours, good dof. One phing I think I had too cropp it some more of the right side. I think, it gives a better effect.
