A medieval bridge, Terrasson-Lavilledieu

One view.
Other view.

The medieval bridge of the XIIth century, the Pont Vieux, on the Vézère, opened in 1150, was built with the means of the monks of the abbey of Terrasson and the abbey Saint-Martial of Limoges, on whom the abbey of Terrasson depended.

This humpbacked bridge contains 3 ogival arcs and 3 arcs. We notice the round fronts-beaks, which were sharp originally, and the flat backs-beaks.

Broken in its middle during the Fronde in 1653. It was afterward repaired and maintained, and doubled by a second bridge downstream in 1833, the Pont Neuf.

The bridge crosses the Vézère, whose valley is named "la Vallée de l'Homme", because of the important prehistoric sites which are there.

TERRASSON-LAVILLEDIEU is a french municipality, located in the department of the Dordogne of the Aquitaine region, populated of 6335 Terrassonnais en 2004, distributed out of 39.3 km², that is to say 161 hab./km².
