Photographer's Note

Sunday morning in the small hill town of La Garde Freinet in the Massive des Maures some 30 km from posh St. Tropez. Patrons are enjoying a cup of coffee and a croissant in the autumn sun after visiting the sunday market on the town square.
The village lies on a hill thickly forested with chestnut trees, the main source of income in the region. Although prone to forest fires in the summer this pleasant village has a strong appeal especially to the british expats community. And luckily enough it has been spared from mass tourism and has been able to conserve its old worldy charm and authenticity as a typical southern french town.
Once one leaves the overdeveloped Côte d'Azur, it is a pleasant surprise how quickly the ugly signs of mass tourism are disappearing and the original charm of the region comes out.
