Photographer's Note

The village of Saintes-Maries de la Mer, capital of the Camargue, is located in the south of France, between Grand and Petit Rhone.

It is a place marked with identity of the Camargue and full of history : Mary Jacobe and Mary Salome, authentic saints, and Sara, patron of Gypsies, are celebrated every year.

The atmosphere is very special in this village.
At the turning of small shopping streets, there are many articles related to gypsy culture : the pretty cross of Camargue, basketwork, the famous hats of guardians and of course the beautiful flounced dresses of flamenco dancers...
And all over, the fragrance of typical dishes like "la gardiane" (bull stew) accompanied with white rice of Camargue, or the famous shells "les tellines"...
