Photographer's Note

Finland is a sparsly populated country and thus not really suited for railway traffic. Despite that Finland has a very well built railway system all over the country. Most railway lines connect the bigger cities with the capital Helsinki, while for smaller rural routes overland busses are used. Finnish trains are modern, clean, spacious and always on time. Finland uses the russian 5ft gauge track. To travel long distances by train in Finland is a real treat to admire the beauty of the Finnish landscape, especially in eastern Finland where one finds thousands of lakes and woods.
Pictured here is the small regional line between the small towns of Savonlinna and Parikkala in eastern Finland near the village of Putikko, once voted Finland's most beautiful village.
