Photographer's Note

10pm at the shores of lake Pijalanvesi in south Carelia, eastern Finland.
The south carelian landscape in eastern Finland has mostly been shaped by retreating glaciers from the last ice age, thus forming the vast lake Saima system. It is a nature lovers paradise with an abundant wild life especially birds, bats, butterflies or dragonflies that can be found in Siikalahti wetlands natural park in the community of Parikkala near the russian border.
Much of Carelia, that spans from Vipuri on lake Ladoga to Joensuu where lost to Finland during the winter war of 1941. It has thus become a symbol for Finnish independence.
