Photographer's Note

This one is from the place where I grew up in Polvijärvi, northern Karelia. There's an apple tree on the left and a rowan on the right. Pictures of apple blossoms I found on TE are from April or May. So spring comes quite a bit later here in the north. None of the familiar apple cultivars found in groceries, like Red Delicious or Granny Smith, would succeed in Finland. We have our own cultivars, and a small number of commercial gardeners in Southern Finland and Åland islands. Many grow a few apple trees on their home gardens further north. Spring was quite late this year, so let's hope apples are ready before frost!
