Photographer's Note

I like the style of this maitolaituri (milk platform), so I decided to upload a new version of it. (Winter version here.)

Farmers used to bring milk churns to such platforms, where they were loaded to trucks and taken to dairies. Usually milk platforms were partially covered and had a dairy logo on them. The green one where a shepherd blows horn belongs to Cooperative Dairy of Nurmes.

From 1970's onwards milk platforms started to become redundant as milk transport was moved to specialised tank trucks that retrieve milk directly from farm tanks. I'm glad that this maitolaituri is still well preserved, though it's no more in original use.
