Old City
It is the part of Prague that began to be populated immediately after the Castle area and Malá Strana. The gateway to the Old City was also conceived as a symbolic triumphal arch through which the Bohemian kings passed during the course of the coronation.
In Staré Město, the Old Town, Italians, Jews, Germans, Burgundians settled there during the 12th century.
In the fourteenth century, Charles IV of Luxembourg further expanded the city with the foundation of the New City, here settled less wealthy population, was separated from Staré Město with a large moat.
