Photographer’s Note
The beautiful island of Kolocep (AKA Kalamota, Island of Knowledge) lies a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik, Croatia. The island is free of cars and only the sound of small motor driven rotovators occasionally disturb the peace as they chugg sedately by on this idyllic little hideaway off the Dalmatian coast. The island is a garden paradise with small holdings either attached or within a short distance of almost every house, producing fruit, vegetables and stunning displays of flowers and shrubs. Small huts abound in most gardens and provide storage for tools, fertilisers and a shady haven from the summer heat. The tree trunk in this shot grows less than half a metre from the threshold of the door, no doubt making access difficult, yet in this laid back little backwater it doesn't seem to matter. A magical place with fine hardworking and friendly inhabitants.
