Photographer's Note

Yesterday, on January 27th 2010, 02:00AM, a violent gas explosion destroyed an old building with apartments in the very centre of Liege.
20 persons could leave the building, 3 of them were in danger. 5 persons could communicate with the emergency services: they were made prisoners under the rubble.
Hundreds windows in the whole district were blasted by the violence of the explosion.

At 07:00AM, the whole structure collapsed.
Two more persons could be extracted, one was still alive – a young girl – the other one was fatally injured.

Yesterday, late in the evening, the emergency services were still working to search out for the 3 missing persons…and perhaps more victims.

Today in the morning, news announce 9 victims… probably there are still some persons under the ruins.
Search is making difficult because the surrounding buildings could collapse too.

Liege is in shock.

This photo shows you this friendly district of my city, very much appreciated by people living in Liege, for its nice atmosphere.
I took this photo two years ago, during a small TE meeting with Marie and Jibé… 100 meters from the place of the disaster zone… the street to the right corner looks now as a devastated place.
