Photographer's Note

My first uploads on TE were all taken in Gent, where I had been staying through the month of January. Looking at my photos again, I see that because of the cold and the Christmas/New Year holidays there were very few people around in the mornings, and I was struck by the absence of breeze for the duration of my stay. This shot was taken from the battlements of the Gravenstein Castle, and shows an almost impossibly still, pond-like corner of the River Leie. The red boat, the white ducks, the bare trees and the turret of the castle appeal to me; if only some hardy soul in a trench coat had come to stand by the railing on the left.
